Lines, dots and contours

Contour lines trace a terrain that slowly shifts beneath them, every fifth one drawn heavier like the index lines on a survey map, and they fade where they crowd together. Lines sets how many there are; Fill tints the land by height and shades the hills as if lit from the upper left.

Dozens of thin lines are stacked like a ridgeline plot, each hiding the ones behind it, their peaks rising toward the middle and flattening at the edges. The terrain rolls slowly toward the viewer. Lines sets how many there are, and Amplitude how tall the peaks grow.

Printed in two inks, a tide of halftone dots rises from the bottom of the page and swells as long waves pass through it, under a dotted sun in the second ink. The dots grow and shrink in place rather than move. Dot size sets how coarse the screen is, and Sun sizes the disc or removes it.

Frosted glass panes stand in a loose row over a softly lit backdrop of glowing orbs, bending, blurring and splitting the light behind them. Each pane drifts and tilts a little and casts a soft shadow. Panes sets how many there are, from three to seven, and Dispersion how far the colors split.

Raindrops land on a still pond at dawn, each sending out a short train of rings that spread and fade. The water mirrors a soft sky and a low sun, and the rings catch brighter or darker light as they tilt the surface. Drops sets how many fall, and Light brightens the sun's reflection.

Rounded cells sit under glass, divided by thin glowing membranes, and each one works as a small lens over a soft gradient beneath. The cells drift and slowly change shape as their centers circle. Cell size sets their scale, and Edges how brightly and widely the membranes glow.

Behind jagged mountains, a striped sun sits on the horizon with its gaps drifting slowly down through it, while a glowing grid floor scrolls toward the viewer and a few sharp stars show overhead. Grid sets how close the floor lines are, and Sun how large the sun appears.
